You need to know the required number of collapsible brackets before hand and how many shelves you are considering.

Once you have made your assessment on the above lines, you can go ahead with the procurement of brackets. As usual, it helps to spend time on the Internet to check what all you can get and at what prices. Compare the prices of different models and order online as it works out economical that way.

Investing In Folding Bookshelf Doors

As you close a bi-fold door system and a bookcase, you get handy hardwood bookcase or display shelving that looks like a solid bookcase. As you glide it on the provided hidden tracks, you can access the opening and area at the back. The folding bookcase envelops and successfully hides the opening or doorway. It allows you to have some additional space by making available storage space in an area of the wall that could earlier be used as a door only.

Similar to bi-fold door, its two or more units that are hinged together in the middle smoothly work on gliding roller assemblies moving on heavy duty tracks. The bookcase projects out of the wall and the track is enclosed in an overhead valance, looking like crown molding at the top of the bookcase. The arrangement is designed to work on extremely close tolerances between the sections of the shelf and the overhead shell that nicely masks the hinges and rollers. The bookcase made of quality hardwoods comes with adjustable shelves, which have the capacity to bear 500lbs of load, which may be in the form of books or other display material.

The mechanical gears are so designed that opening of the bookcase causes no disturbance to the books or items and even a child can easily open and close it. This shelf door system is individually crafted and offered in many finishes of different hardwoods. It makes a wonderful addition to any guest room, den, bedroom, kitchen, family room, or home office.

These can easily be assembled and installed at any place and you get them in many different sizes of varying heights and widths, which are a bit more than most of the usual openings that helps hiding the opening conveniently. This matchless system is provided with a heavy-duty track and a base with smooth gliding rollers to ensure quality and durability of the product.

It’s Easy To Build Folding Shelves

Folding shelves make an excellent proposition for storage without really affecting the available space in any room. These short-term storage options are very easy to make without spending a lot of money. If you consider making these, the materials and tools you need are listed here and also the steps for going ahead with this project:

Tools and Materials Needed:

* Plywood Sheet or Softwood Block
* Brackets for Folding Shelf
* Table Saw Anchors
* Power Drill
* Screws
* Measuring Tape
* Wood Stain
* Level
* Sandpaper

Step 1: Initial Steps

You should decide before hand the wall that is going to house the shelf and measure the available area so that the shelf fits in there perfectly. Make markings on the wall to facilitate measurements. Get four-inch thick plywood and cut it to measured size on a table saw, taking care to cut it straight so that it looks neat. It’ s fine to use plywood if you are not going to keep the shelf in the living area of your house. Otherwise, it will be desirable to use some better quality of treated wood so that it goes well the rest of the décor of your living room.

Step 2: Sanding and Staining

Using a sandpaper of medium grit rub the shelf very briskly to get smooth edges. After the shelf is sanded to size, cover it evenly with wood stain. Let it dry for a few hours. Using the same material and keeping the size same, make another similar shelf.
Step 3: Brackets and Anchors

Mark the height where you want to position the shelf. Keep anchors on the marked points. With the help of a power drill make holes at the points where the ends of the anchor line up with the wall. Put in drywall nails in these holes to provide firm support to the brackets. You may avoid locating the wall studs. It’s important to ensure that the length of the prepared shelf doesn’t go beyond 3 inches from any end of the anchors. Drill holes in the marked positions and position the shelf before firmly screwing them. Using carpenter’s level ensures that the bracket remains at level with anchors.

Step 4: Placing Hinges

Get the board cutout for the shelf and keep it on the floor. Get two hinges and keep them in position at the two sides. Drill holes to pass thru the holes of the hinges and screw them up on the shelf. Do the same with the other side of the shelf. Get the other cutouts from the shelf and keep these by the side of the seams of the first shelf. You have to ensure that the part of the hinge that is moving free comes below the underside of new shelf. Simultaneously screw the hinge like before. That gives you a long shelf, which you can fold at two points where you attached the hinges.

Step 5: Final Steps

Now you may raise the shelf to sit on the brackets and anchors already set on the wall. Insert screw in the holes where the bracket holes align with the outside of the shelf at its bottom, making sure that the shelf fits straight fully tighten the screws, and there you see the folding shelves!
